The O Theatre is located inside the Bellagio in Las Vegas, Nevada and is home to the water-themed stage production by Cirque du Soliel, a Canadian circus and entertainment company. Designed to look something like the 14th Century European opera house it has 1,800 seats and is around and above a 1.5 million-US-gallon pool of water. The show features acts such as synchronized swimming as well as aerial and ground acts. The O Theater offers backstage tours so visitors can experience the backstage wings, training rooms, costume workshop, break area, underwater lighting area, and on up to the catwalk for the sound and lighting booths. O has received many awards including Entertainment Design Award, for best production show in 1998, Las Vegas Review-Journal, best production show in 1999-2006, THEA, live show category in 1999, Prix Italia, and creativity in high definition in 2009 for the documentary Flow. Since 2011 there have been over 6,000 performances of the stage show in the O Theatre the show has a cast of about 85 acrobats, synchronized swimmers and divers. If water from the O Theatre has to be drained it takes about 12 hours and is diverted to the world famous Bellagio Fountains causing the pool outside to raise about one inch. To protect and minimize the damage to the musical instruments the musicians play from glass enclosures in the theatre some of the instruments are over a 100 years old and the unique string instrument heard in the soundtrack of O is an erhu, a traditional Chinese bowed string instrument.
