With over 100 million record sales worldwide, The Who is considered one of the most influential rock bands of all time. Formed by Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend and John Entwistle, the band developed from an earlier group called The Detours. The trio performed in several clubs before meeting drummer Keith Moon in the early 1960s. Their first singles, “I Can’t Explain” and "Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere," written by Townshend and Daltrey, reached the top 10 on the UK charts. Their next single, “My Generation,” peaked at #2 on the UK charts, but their success really came from their album, Tommy. Not only did they set forth on a tour and release a movie, but they performed at the famous Woodstock festival. Following this success, they released a live album called Live at Leeds and later Quadrophenia, a concept album about a 1960s Mod. The band has received many awards and nominations, including a Lifetime Achievement Award in 1988. The current members consist of Daltrey, Townsend, and several touring musicians. 

The band created a legacy in the rock industry, especially from their live performances. Band members would destroy instruments on the stage, shocking their audiences. They were among the first to use synthesizers and extreme volumes with distortions in rock music. They were also the first to use feedback as part of their guitar sound and PA systems for live shows. The Who was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1990.
