The Silversun Pickups have long been a favorite among indie rock listeners and now they have moved into the almost mainstream without having to sacrifice either the sound and spirit of the music they love to make or the music they love to emulate. This seems quite a grand statement, but it is difficult to argue against as Silversun Pickup tickets become available for a show in Las Vegas at the Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel. The September 14, 2012 show is certainly a welcome sign for fans that love the band and also might want to go to Las Vegas.

This is a perfect opportunity to turn a concert into complete weekend plans. Not only are the Silversun Pickups performing as the headliner, but School of Seven Belts and Atlas Genius, one of the hottest bands of late, are opening. Then, the fans are free to take the opportunity to traipse up and down the Las Vegas strip, partying the weekend and not just the night away.

The Silversun Pickups are always touring, but the 2012 tour has been one in the name of a new album, Neck of the Woods. The first new album from the group in three years, the fans quickly made it clear new material from the band that first made inroads with “Lazy Eye” and “Panic Switch” had much more to offer than simply relying on early promise. “Bloody Mary”, the lead single, builds up to a crescendo of synthesizers and a chorus of voices. This is a song taking the sound of the Smashing Pumpkins and Kill Hannah to a new level, not one taking the group in a different direction (there will be no rapping on this album). These dedicated fans launched the new album to the number six spot on the Billboard 200 and number one spot on the Independent Music album charts.

Those same fans are welcome additions to the Las Vegas music scene, as the city moves beyond the realm of celebrity impersonators and groups a decade or beyond their prime.
