Counting Crows is an American rock band from Berkeley, CA.  The group consists of Adam Duritz, David Bryson, Charlie Gillingham, Dan Vickrey, David Immergluck, Jim Bogios, and Millard Powers.

The Counting Crows became a virtual overnight sensation in 1994 following the major success of August and Everything After (1993) and extensive touring, both as headliners and in supporting roles with other artist including Cracker, the Cranberries, Bob Dylan, Los Lobos, and Jellyfish.

What made the Counting Crows unique was how they were able to balance Duritz's tortured lyrics with the sound of the late 60s and early 70s.  This made them one of the few alternative bands to appeal to listeners who thought that rock & roll died on 1972.

Their ticket to stardom was the up-tempo song, "Mr. Jones."  This song actually refers to The Himalayans' bassist, Marty Jones, who was Adam Duritz's childhood friend.  In the song, they describe the desire of working musicians to make it big and the fantasies they entertain about what this might bring.
