Comics today enjoy success among a wide range of audiences. This success is also shared with Bill Engvall. This Texas native includes happenings from his real life in his comedy act, which has endeared him to his fans and makes him a welcome act in cities to which he travels.

Born in Galveston, he has been married for close to 20 years and has a son and a daughter. He speaks of his family frequently when he makes public appearances. He portrays himself as a bumbling and reluctant patriarchal figure in his family, with his wife making him painfully aware that his daughter buys lingerie and his son sometimes makes dimwitted mistakes. He also mentions that he protects his spouse and kids, especially his daughter, when she is about to date a new man.

He also speaks endearingly of his family's dogs, who often are witnesses to he and his wife's romantic endeavors. He comically gives voices for his dogs in his act, with his dogs approvingly cheering on the star as the couple makes love.

His quick wit and southern charm brought him to the attention of fellow comic Jeff Foxworthy. Foxworthy put together a comedy act called Blue Collar Comedy Tour. Along with comedians Larry the Cable Guy and Ron White, Foxworthy and Engvall brought southern redneck humor to new audiences. The quartet of comedians quickly became national headline makers with their unique brand of humor.

Outside of touring the country, Bill also has expanded his career to hosting the game show Lingo. Following the footsteps of Foxworthy, he now regularly appears on the Game Show Network when he is not making appearances on the tour.
