Inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame the recipients of Canada’s highest honor in performing arts The Guess Who, received the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award in 2002. Having almost sixty active years of performing live together The Guess Who have been going strong since their debut release in 1962 with a tribute single “Tribute to Buddy Holly”. Their first number one hit in Canada was a 1965 rendition of Johnny Kidd & the Pirates “Shakin’ All Over” it hit #22 in the US. The Guess Who currently consists of Derek Sharp on vocals, guitars, Will Evankovich playing guitar and on backing vocals, Leonard Shaw on keyboard, Jim Kale on bass and Garry Peterson on the drums. The Guess Who is a Canadian rock band from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Initially only gaining recognition in Canada, the group also found international success from the late 1960s through the mid-1970s with numerous hit singles, including "No Time", "American Woman", "These Eyes" and "Share the Land". Several former members of The Guess Who, notably Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman (of Bachman–Turner Overdrive), have found considerable success outside the band.
The Guess Who continue to perform live dates on a regular basis. Carl Dixon (ex-Coney Hatch) was the group's lead singer through 2008, until he was injured in an automobile accident which left him unable to perform with the group. The current Guess Who line-up consists of Derek Sharp (vocals, guitars), Will Evankovich (guitars, backing vocals), Leonard Shaw (keyboards), Jim Kale (bass), and Garry Peterson (drums).
The band was inducted into The Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1987. In 2002, Randy Bachman, Burton Cummings, Garry Peterson, Donnie McDougall and Bill Wallace received the Governor General's Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement, Canada's highest honour in the performing arts, for The Guess Who's contribution to popular music in Canada.
