The Stone Temple Pilots are back in the 2010s. First they released a self-titled album, then they embarked on a tour encompassing two years, and now they celebrating the 20^th anniversary of the release of their debut album Core. STP celebrated the anniversary by releasing a live album recorded in Chicago (Live in the Windy City) from back in 2010 and by charting a Core Tour across North America. Las Vegas is certainly pleased to be included on this schedule, with a show at the Pearl Concert theater at Palms Casino Resort on the books for September 17, 2012. Fans fortunate to have Stone Temple Pilots tickets to this Vegas concert will have a chance to relive the year 1992 as Scott Weiland delivers with “Plush” and “Creep”.

The success of this album and the location close to Seattle meant STP would be swept up in the hurry to define the music coming out of the Pacific Northwest. Thus a group that actually combined the early sound of alternative rock with the hard rock styling of the 1970s was suddenly considered Grunge. Eventually mainstream music moved on from grunge and Stone Temple Pilots found themselves reclassified, much more correctly, as alternative rock. By then Core had gone 8-times platinum and the follow-up Purple went 6-times platinum, but a group with the sound to dominate this new musical landscape found itself ending the party way too soon.

Unfortunately, Weliand’s heavy drug use had also put a shelf life on this run of success. Stone Temple Pilots took a hiatus and tried to keep it together moving into the 21^st century. Despite hit singles like “Sour Girl” and “Days of the Week”, the album’s charting and commercial success had dwindled. Weiland, Dean DeLeo, Robert DeLeo, and Eric Kretz moved on and joined super groups, collaborating with the band members of other disbanded groups that once dominated the radio.

Now, in the second decade of the 21^st century, Weiland appears to have finally learned his lesson and STP has managed to make this reunion stick. Stone Temple Pilots tickets will be available in Vegas for another show at some time in the future, but the only date coming up immediately is the December 15^th show.
