However, she didn’t accept the contract until she finished high school two years later.

In 1987 she released her first album Touch which included the song “Vox.” Her second album Solace was released in 1991 and became her Candian mainstream breakthrough. Followed by Fumbling Toward Ecstacy, which was her first international charting album. McLachlan then released her Grammy Award winning and best-selling album, Surfacing, which featured her chart topping single “Angel.” Each album followed by a tour and countless awards, including the Juno Award for International Achievement and a place in the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

McLachlan has released five studio albums since then, including her two Christmas albums Wintersong and Wonderland. Besides performing she’s become quite the philanthropist, starting with the Sarah McLachlan School of Music which provides free music lessons for at-risk youth in Vancouver. She is also known for her support when it comes to ASPCA, in 2006 she appeared in a commercial along with her single “Angel” which raised over $30 million for the organization.
