Born in Staffordshire, England, Robbie Williams has become one of the most accredited British singers of all time. He has over 77 million record sales worldwide and has received 18 Brit Awards- making him the most successful solo artist in the award show’s history. Williams started his career as the youngest member of the boy band Take That, helping the group get several #1 singles as the lead vocalist. In 1997, Williams launched his solo career with his debut album, Life Thru a Lens. Through this album came his smash hit “Angels,” which sold more than 800,000 copies worldwide. The next year, he released I've Been Expecting You, which debuted at #1 on the UK Albums charts. Almost all of his albums reached #1 on the charts. In 1999, Williams was signed to U.S-based label Capitol Records. He soon began U.S-and-Canada-based promotions and released his third through fifth albums. Williams’ discography remains large, having released 12 studio albums, one EP, and 59 singles, with eight compilation albums, one live album, and 10 video albums. In 2004, he was inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame. Williams is also active in charity work, especially those pertaining to his hometown. He founded the Give It Sum charity, which strives to "improve local conditions and strengthen community life by giving money to those who are disadvantaged." He also organizes charity football matches called Soccer Aid. Since 2006, both professional players and celebrities have played in these games to raise money for UNICEF UK.
