Lamb of God is one of the most prominent bands of the new wave of American heavy metal. The original band members had known each other since college and had decided to start a band under the name Burn the Priest. They released a self-titled album in 1999 before changing their name to Lamb of God in order to avoid being mistaken for a satanic metal band. They released seven studio albums after that, being praised for their consistency of delivering strong and powerful heavy metal songs. Their third album, Ashes of the Wake, is their most commercially successful piece, debuting at number 27 on the Billboard 200 Chart and selling over 25,000 copies in the first week. The band has been nominated for five Grammys and has also received numerous other accolades, including Best Thrash Metal Album at the Metal Storm Awards in 2015.
