Dave Koz’s Background

Dave Koz is not only a jazz saxophonist but also a radio host, humanitarian and an entrepreneur. After finishing his studies from William Howard Taft High School, he joined UCLA College where he graduated in 1986 with a degree in mass communication. Dave Koz began his musical career a few weeks after graduating and was recruited by Bobby Caldwell as a member of his band for the tour. Koz served as a session musician for the rest of the 1980s in several bands, working with such prominent persons as Jeff Lorber, and Richard Marx (whom he served in his band for throughout the late 1980s and the early 90s). In 1990, Kox officially launched his solo musical career and the transition just proved successful with his eponymous album Dave Koz gaining popularity and receiving high praise from fans and critics alike. He subsequently released other albums including Luck Man, Off the Beaten Path, the Dance and Saxophonic-which was nominated for both NAACP Image Award and the Grammy Awards. In 1994, Dave Kox launched a syndicated radio program named The Dave Koz Radio Show which largely featured the latest music and interviews of high-profile artists of the time.
