UFC 235, which is to be held in Las Vegas on March 2nd, is making waves across the mixed martial arts scene for good reason. With a main event that involves the title defense of UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones against Anthony Smith, this is certainly a card that diehard fans shouldn’t miss for the world.
The one-loss champion has been on the road to reclaiming and defending the said title even if it involved fighting only once a year on average. The string of controversies that Jones has faced in the past certainly didn’t stop his resolve, even making a strong statement that he intends to fight thrice this year. Of course¸ his first test will be the “Lionheart” himself, Anthony Smith, who is currently ranked #3 in light heavyweight rankings.
The fight will be preceded by a second title bout that pits welterweight champion Tyron Woodley against the Nigerian Nightmare, Kamaru Usman. Usman has been on a streak of decision wins, and this title fight will certainly be able to prove whether he can maintain the same dominance he has been displaying against none other than The Chosen One.
Former champions are also set to have a go in the Octagon as former bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandy will be fighting Pedro Munhoz. Robbie Lawler, who once held the welterweight championship, will be fighting undefeated welterweight Ben Askren. Their fight was rescheduled to UFC 235 after their intended UFC 233 fight was cancelled. On the other hand, Holly Holm, the former women’s bantamweight champion will be up against Aspen Ladd.
That being said, UFC 235 is surely one of the noteworthy cards that UFC fans will be treated to in the first half of 2019. Reschedules and licensing delays and uncertainties is what shaped this massive storm of a card. Its boom and rumble would certainly be felt and heard once its fighters, out for blood, clash head on.
