This year marks the company’s 50th-anniversary. In 1972, Vassil Sulich and Folies Bergere organized a series of dance performances at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. An overwhelmingly positive response from the Las Vegas community, resulted in the formation of the NBT only two years later. Today, the company has expanded beyond performances to an academy, teaching over 20,000 youth and adult ballet students annually. Additionally, the NBT has an annual collaboration with Cirque du Soleil for A Choreographers’ Showcase.
Choreographer of the production of The Nutcracker is the NBT Artistic Director, James Canfield. James joined the company in 2008 and is the third appointed Artist Director of the organization. His first original work for the Nevada Ballet Theater titled, Cyclical Night, debuted in 2010. For the organization’s 40th anniversary celebration, James created an all-new production of The Nutcracker, marking it as his first full-length ballet with the organization.
