Alejandro Fernandez, also called “El Potrillo”, or the Little Colt, by fans, is a popular Mexican pop singer who has sold millions of albums. He was born in 1971 in Mexico City to the famous Mexican singer Vicente Fernandez and made his first stage appearance with his father in 1977. He began following in his father’s footsteps pursuing music seriously in the early 1990s. He began by singing mariachi, ranchera, and bolero music, but later switched to mainstream pop in the late 1990s after his international hit “Como quien pierde una estrella”. He has performed all over the world, and now Alejandro Fernandez performs in Las Vegas.
His first album, was self-titled and was released in 1992 with Sony Music. He began touring in Mexico and certain parts of the United States. He produced two more albums before he became known worldwide for his 1995 album “Que Seas Muy Feliz”. His latest album was released in 2010. Throughout his career he has performed with many other mainstream artists such as Nelly Furtado, Gloria Estefan, Julio Iglesias, Beyonce Knowles, and Ricky Martin.
He was briefly married to American Guinart, but divorced after having three children: Alejandro Jr., America and Camila (twins). He has two other children, Emiliano and Valentina, with Ximena Diaz, a Colombian model who he dated previously.
He is currently on the Dos Mundos tour and is scheduled to play at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada in September 2011. Large arenas are nothing new to the performer; he has played in Madison Square Garden in New York City and frequently plays sold-out shows at Mexico City’s Auditorio Nacional. He is now one of the top performers in Mexico and is known throughout the world.
Since beginning singing with his father during the beginning of his career, they have continued to work together on many other musical projects. This, coupled with over 20 million albums sold world wide, has made him one of the biggest sensations to emerge out of the Latin musical explosion. If you plan ahead, you can be present when Alejandro Fernandez performs in Las Vegas.
