The country-pop sensation has invited Kevin McGuire, an 18-year-old super fan who’s battling leukemia, to be her date to the Academy of Country Music Awards — an offer he’s gladly accepted!
The dream date originated, of all places, on Facebook. In an attempt to brighten her brave brother’s day, McGuire’s big sister Victoria set up a page called “Taylor Swift take Kevin McGuire to Prom” Kevin, a varsity football player in Somerdale, N.J., was diagnosed with leukemia when he was 13 years old and has been in remission since 2010. Unfortunately, the cancer has now returned, putting a pall over his senior year of high school.
But McGuire doesn’t want to go with the country cutie just because it’ll help him win more prom king votes. He is currently battling his second round of leukemia and according to a Facebook event organized by his older sister, “Nothing, and I mean NOTHING brightens Kevin’s day more than Taylor Swift.”
“Kevin DESERVES more than anyone a special event in his life.. and the one thing he wants is to GO TO PROM WITH TAYLOR SWIFT!” she added.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Swift had to decline his invite but offered him an even better proposition.
“Kevin, I’m so sorry but I won’t be able to make it to your prom. But I was wondering, the ACM Awards are coming up.. Would you be my date? Love, Taylor,” she wrote on her Facebook page.
