Lady Gaga is an American female singer and songwriter from New York City. Her real name is Stefani Germanotta and her birthday is 28 March 1986.
She is currently signed to R&B artist Akon’s record label. She has so far released two albums; The Fame in 2008, The Fame Monster in 2009, and Born This Way will be available in May 2011.
She has sold approximately twenty three million albums and sixty million singles worldwide. She also embarked on global tours for each of her albums and won five Grammy awards.
Her sometimes controversial music videos allowed her to be the first recording artist to get over a billion views on YouTube, the video sharing website. She has also been involved in a lot of controversial outfit choices. As an artist who enjoys fashion and eccentricity, opinions have been constantly divided over what she wears. The main object of controversy was the dress made out of meat that was worn to the 2010 MTV awards. Although many critics described it as distasteful, the artist herself later said that she was aiming to highlight issues of human rights, especially for those in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.
Some people claimed that she had been entirely insensitive when during a show in the United Kingdom she portrayed herself as being attacked and covered in blood. As this occurred shortly after a mass murder in the Cambria area it was strongly criticized. However, her defendants claimed that people knew what the style of her shows would be like and that it was not plausible to change the staging of the show suddenly.
But as an artist with so much written and said about her the University of South Carolina has started to offer a course on ‘Lady Gaga and the Sociology of Fame’. As one of the most featured celebrities in magazines all over the world, the publicity helps boost her profile and keeps magazines selling.
You can see her perform live at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on March 25, 2011. Vegas Tickets has tickets available to this event.
