August Burns Red is an American metalcore band, from Manheim, PA.  Formed in 2003, the group began their first performances while a majority of the members were attending their senior year of high school.  The band's name was taken from a local incident in which a troubled teenage girl (named August) set fire to a pet dog (named Redd) belonging to her former boyfriend, who happened to be the band's lead vocalist at the time.

August Burns Red is primarily known for their heavy breakdowns and odd-meter riffs.  They state Between the Buried and Me, Misery Signals, and Hopesfall as their main influences.  Although they may look like some clean-cut suburban kids, when the group plug in to play, they unleash a precise, powerfully emotional metalcore onslaught that has won them a loyal following among fans of adventurous hard rock.

Their second album, Messengers (2007), marked the first time that the full band collaborated on lyrics as well as music for the album's eleven songs.
