Music is a form of art that has been created ultimately to let many individuals express their thoughts and feelings that they may never be able to utter in a regular setting through instruments and lyrics. When you are happy, you listen to upbeat songs. When there is a lot of anger that you want to remove from your heart, you jam to rock 'n roll. But when you feel sentimental or thankful for something that has happened in your life, there is no other genre for you but soul.
What is soul music?
The origin of soul music can be traced back to the African American communities in the middle of the 20th century, around the same time that the Supreme Court of the United States lifted the segregation law which basically prevents the “people of color” from mixing with the white citizens in public places. The rhythm and blues, as well as the gospel music, are the key inspirations for soul, that’s why every song categorized under this genre is full of emotion and positivity that other types lack of.
How popular is soul music?
The admiration that this kind of music has garnered over the years is immeasurable, for the reason that it has gone beyond the borders of the US and touched the hearts of so many people across the planet. Some of the legendary artists who have started as soul singers are Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston and Prince. The ones who are still spreading love through their music are Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Adele, Mariah Carey, Tina Turner, and Beyoncé, to name a few. Living or not, there is not a single person in the world who does not know these entertainers and the songs that they have given life to.
This popularity of soul music is what has given rise to the annual Las Vegas Soul Festival in Vegas.

Who will the performers be?
These are the names of the artists who will be at the show:
Keith Sweat is a seasoned soul and R&B singer-songwriter whose first album, Make It Last Forever, as a solo artist debuted in 1987. He has released two more albums before he founded the Keia Records in Atlanta and continued on producing different groups and making feel-good music up to this day.

His debut song, Pony, which has been produced by the latter, has gained a whole lot of attention for it is the same song that you have seen Channing Tatum dancing rather suggestively to in the second installment of Magic Mike.

Why should you attend it?
· To hear real music. When you go online or turn your TV on, it is very rare nowadays to find artists who sing about love or the beauty of life. Most of the time, the lyrics are made to express hatred, jealousy, anger and other worldly things, and then cover them up with fast beats and nice accompaniment. This is not what soul is all about, as the songs crafted for this specific genre aim to inspire many and highlight the vocal prowess of the songster(s). There will not be a lot of large, frivolous props to distract you, so you will be able to hear and feel the music every time.
· To bring back memories. As you may have noticed from the lineup of artists mentioned above, the Las Vegas Soul Festival in Vegas will be featuring the singers from the 80s and 90s whose songs may have made you smile in the past and even at present. The tracks that they are going to sing will definitely be the chart-toppers from their own albums, that’s why you may hear some of your favorite songs of Keith Sweat, Ginuwine, and Dru Hill in the occasion. This goes to show that soul music is timeless, regardless of the number of years that will pass.
· To be with family. If you are thinking of a bonding activity with your older folks, this is the perfect opportunity for you to take them to a concert that they can truly enjoy. Shows centered on soul music are hard to come by now, specifically because the millennials are clamoring for sultry songs that they can sing or dance to. This specific festival just happens once a year too, so you better attend it.
· To give something to charity. The event has only started several years back, yet the organizers always choose a charitable institution to share their earnings to. This 2016, the Lazarex Cancer Foundation will be receiving their generosity. It is a non-profit organization based in California that has been giving support, financial or not, to the patients of cancer and going to various places to inform as many people as possible about the disease.
If you wish to listen to soul music at its finest, you can have it when you go to the Las Vegas Soul Festival in Vegas. Show your love for soul. Cheers!
