Biography

Kansas is an American rock band made up of five men who have been playing and writing progressive rock for over 40 years now. Any classical rock music lover can distinguish their unique sound and unchained vocals that bring with it a profound sense of freedom. The band is no stranger to the ever evolving music industry as they dedicated their lives to get play to the tastes of multiple generations of music lovers. The first public statement that came from the band was from an album in 1974 where the stated that their music is different, and they hope to remain so as long as they perform.

When the first appeared on the scene, little did they know that their music would go on to influence many generations. As critics and fans cheered on for ages, the band always managed to keep their music ahead of their time. When this little garage band from Topeka release their debut album after being discovered by Wally Gold, nobody could fathom in 1974 that Kansas would go on to become one of the legends of the music industry.

Background and claim to fame

The songs titled "Carry on My Wayward Son" and "Dust in the Wind", managed to stay on the Billboard charts for more than 200 weeks throughout the 70s and 80s. Tickets sold like hotcakes and Kansas one life hit show after another throughout North America, Japan, and Europe.

Carry On My Wayward Son made the record of being the second most played a track on rock radio in the year 1995, but it snatched the first position in 1997. The band released their experimental orchestral album titled "Always Never the Same" in 1998, which was recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London in collaboration with the London Symphony Orchestra.

Mid-career

Kansas went back to the studio in 2000 with their original songwriter and band member Kerry Livgren. The result came up as the new album "Somewhere to Elsewhere", which was the first album that contained all the six original players that were recorded over 20 years. There are also 10 new songs that were written by Livgren, which was recorded in a studio. The other players included Billy Greer, Phil Ehart, Dave Hope, Kerry Livgren, Steve Walsh, Robbie Steinhardt, and Richard Williams. In 2002, the band released a high-tech DVD that was considered a marvel because of its tremendous sound and visual design.

"Sail On" was a boxed set released by Sony music in 2004, which was a special release that contained vented video footage of the band's performances. Fast forward five years, the band celebrated their 35th anniversary in their hometown of Topeka with a symphonic concert. This spectacular show was released on DVD titled "There's Know Place Like Home", and it captured the unique performances by special guests Steve Morse and Kerry Livgren in high-resolution quality and brilliant sound.

Induction to the Hall of Fame

Right in time for their 40th anniversary, Kansas was inducted into the Georgia music Hall of Fame as well as Kansas Hall of Fame for their contributions and achievements in the music industry.
