Kathryn Dawn Lang, known by her stage name k.d. lang, is a Canadian pop and country singer-songwriter and occasional actress.  She often styles har name in lowercase latters, with the given names contracted to initials and no space between these initials.

When k.d. lang released her first major-label album in 1987, she caused considerable controversy within the traditional world of country music.  With her vaguely campy approach, androgynous appearance, and edgy, rock-inflected music, very few observers knew what to make of her or her music, although no one questioned her considerable vocal talents.

Lang has won both Juno Awards and Grammy Awards for her musical performances.  She has contributed songs to movie soundtracks and has teamed with musicians such as Roy Orbison, Tony Bennett, Elton John, and Anne Murray.
