Hailing from the state of Georgia, Travis Tritt the country music singer, showed an early interest in musical composition and performing. His parents bought him his first guitar when he was eight years old. He taught himself to play Bible school songs on this first instrument. When he was 14, his mom and dad gifted him with another guitar, upon which he learned to play popular country songs of the time.

Despite his playing when he was a teenager, he did not study to become a musician. Rather, upon graduating high school, he married young and worked in a number of different industries, including at a furniture store, a grocery store, and a fast food restaurant. His first marriage was unsuccessful and the young pair divorced after a short marriage.

However, he continued his interest in singing and he began to play with friends in bluegrass bands. As time progressed, he recorded demos of his songs and was eventually singed to a professional recording contract with Werner Brothers. His professional career began in earnest in 1989.

His songs reflect on the difficulty many people encounter in love relationships and in their work lives. The song "Here's a Quarter" gained popularity among audiences as the song speaks of the frustration in not getting along with one's love interest. At the time of the song's release, it cost one quarter to make a phone call from a telephone booth.
