The Black Keys, featuring Dan Auerbach & Patrick Carney, are a blues-rock music duo from Akron, Ohio.  Their name comes from local artist Alfred McMoore, who used the phrase "black key" to indicate something was 'off-center' or 'not quite right.'  Both of thier first two albums were recorded entirely in Patrick Carney's basement on an 8-track tape recorder from the early 1980s.  The band is frequently compared to The White Stripes and the stylings and energy of The Jimi Hendrix Experience and blues artists, such as Junior Kimbrough, Muddy Waters and Elmore James.

In 2008, the team released Attack & Release, where they teamed up with sonic architect Danger Mouse.  This album helped establish The Black Keys as a rock & roll band with a brutal, primal force, and songwriters of considerable depth when compared to the earlier releases of 2003's Thickfreakness and 2004's Rubber Factory.
