Styx the rock band was formed during the early 1970s by a group of musicians from Chicago, Illinois. They are considered part of the progressive and hard rock scenes. This prolific group is characterized by strong ballads, hard-driving electric guitars, and fusions of American theatrical elements.

The members of this group include the following. Tommy Shaw (talkbox, autoharp, mandolin, guitar, vocals), J. Y. (James) Young (guitar, vocals, keyboards), Chuck Panozzo (bass), Todd Sucherman (drums), Lawrence Gowan (vocals, keyboards, guitar), and Ricky Phillips (bass, backing vocals) are current members. Among the past members are Dennis DeYoung (founding member, keyboards, accordion, vocals), John Panozzo (drums), J. C. (John) Curulewski (founding member, synthesizer, autoharp, vocals, guitar), and Glen Burtnik (guitar, vocals, bass).

The band's debut album was self-titled, and released in 1972. Its tracks include a cover of "Fanfare for the Common Man" (written by Aaron Copeland), and "Children of the Land". The following year, two albums were released, "Styx II" and "The Serpent is Rising". In November of 1974, "Man of Miracles" was released, followed by "Equinox" in 1975, and "Crystal Ball" in 1976.

Styx Vegas Tickets 2Released in July of 1977, "The Grand Illusion" became the group's break-through album. It reached number six on the U. S. Billboard charts, propelled by hits which included "Come Sail Away".

In 1978, "Pieces of Eight" also reached number six on the Billboard charts. The album's top hits include "Renegade", "Blue Collar Man" and "Sing for the Day". The following year, "Cornerstone" was released, and climbed to the number two position on the pop charts.

The January 1981 release of "Paradise Theater" was well-received. It became a triple-platinum album which reached the number one position on pop charts. The successive releases include "Kilroy Was Here" in 1983, "Edge of the Century" in 1990, "Brave New World" in 1999, "Cyclorama" in 2003, and "Big Bang Theory" in 2005.

Styx the rock band has a long and successful history. This popular group continues to perform at global venues today.
