Paula Poundstone is a stand-up comedian from Huntsville, Alabama. Although she initially had a desire to act, she began doing comedy in 1979 at open-mic nights in Boston clubs. Eventually Paula moved to California, but after several years she didn't follow through with the potential acting career. In 1989, she won the American Comedy Award for "Best Female Stand-Up Comic" and starred in several comedy specials for HBO into the early 1990s.

Over the last 10 years, Paula has written a book titled, There's Nothing In This Book That I Meant To Say, released her first comedy CD, joined NPR's weekly news quiz program, "Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me", and a long list of other credits and appearances.
