Michael Buble was influenced by his grandfather, who helped him develop a love of the popular standards from the 40s onwards. By his teens, the music of Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Paul Anka and others of that genre became the music he favored and he quickly learned to sing them all, as a favor to his grandfather. "I started practicing 'Stardust' and 'Melancholy Baby' and won a local talent contest, but was disqualified for being underage," said Michael.

Michael's big break came when he was asked to perform at a gig for former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney's daughter's wedding. Mulroney, a fan of the classic songs Michael performed, introduced him to Grammy-winning producer David Foster.

Foster signed Michael to his Reprise/143 Records Label in 2001 and Michael's first self-titled album was released in early 2003; and the rest is history.
