'An Evening at La Cage' -- escapist entertainment at its finest...For 22 years, audiences have enjoyed the colorful, bejeweled spectacle that is La Cage. Following the lead of the great Parisian cabaret shows, La Cage's female impersonators dress up as various celebrity entertainers to lip-sync to those celebrities' greatest hits. Those seen can include Céline Dion, Cher, Bette Midler, Judy Garland, Britney Spears, and, intriguingly, Michael Jackson. A Joan Rivers impersonator is the hostess, delivering scatological phrases and jokes. The ladies are (sometimes) dead-ringers of superstars; like any other performer, most of these divas are effective because they know how to sell the song and the character... and that's entertaining.

You will thoroughly enjoy this show of lip-synced songs and campy jokes, not so much due to the outrageous costumes and flawless make-up, but because of the energy and dedication given to accurately impersonate the famous women we often love to hate. This isn't strictly a male cast, as the competent supporting background dancers are women. The most refreshing thing about "An Evening at La Cage" is that it's all done in good fun, without an ounce of mean spirit.
