Though he's usually recognized as Doug Heffernan on the hit television show "King of Queens", Kevin James comedian also enjoys a successful career as a stand-up comedian and movie actor, writer, and producer. He was born as Kevin George Knipfing on April 26, 1965 in Mineola, New York. He majored in sports management while attending Cortland University and also played fullback for the school's football team.

After realizing he wasn't really cut out for sports management he ended up joining a local community theater and soon found that he had a knack for making people laugh while playing comedic roles. He then joined up with his brother, Gary Valentine, in an improvisational group and began performing in local comedy clubs.

While honing his skills as a stand-up comedian on the American comedy circuit he met Ray Romano, who was gaining popularity across the world with his sitcom named "Everybody Loves Raymond". He was also gaining some recognition on a show called "Star Search" as well as on several talk shows. He appeared with Jay Leno on the "The Tonight Show" in 1992 and then four years later caught a big break while performing at Montreal's "Just for Laughs" comedy festival.

He appeared several times on his friend Romano's show "Everybody Loves Raymond" starting in 1996 and just two years later he was entertaining fans with his own show on CBS called "The King of Queens". He married longtime girlfriend Steffiana De La Cruz on June 19, 2004 and "The King of Queens" ended production in 2007.

However, James has kept himself busy with his movie career and has appeared in several successful films. These include "Hitch", "I now Pronounce you Chuck and Larry", "Grown Ups", "The Dilemma", and "Zookeeper". His next movie project is scheduled to be released in 2012 and is named "Here Comes the Boom". In the movie James plays a physics teacher named Scott Voss who becomes a mixed martial arts fighter.
