John Stephens, better known by his stage name John Legend, is a recording artist, musician, and actor.  Legend gained popularity prior to the release of his debut album through a series of successful collaborations with many established artists such as Kanye West, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Fort Minor, and even played piano for Lauryn Hill.  He's also written songs for Whitney Houston, Jennifer Hudson, and Aretha Franklin.

Legend released his debut album, Get Lifeted, in December 2004.  It ended up getting certified Platinum by the RIAA.  Two singles from that album, "Ordinary People" and "Used to Love U", were both very popular.  The first went straight to number one and the second making the US top 100 and UK top 30 lists.

More recently, John Legend team with The Roots to record a collaborative album which was released in September 2010.  The first single, "Wake Up Everybody", featured singer Melanie Fiona and rapper Common.  "Hard Times" was the second single from the album.
