From a Bachelor's degree in speech therapy, to a host of one of the most popular talk shows, you have to think how did Jay Leno make this happen. The best answer is comedy. Hidden behind all the talk shows is just a guy who loves to do standup comedy.

Jay Leno was actually recommended by his high school counselor to drop out. How many times would you hear that now days? Leno did not give up, but persevered and went on to get a Bachelor's degree in speech therapy from Emerson College. After going through all the hard work of getting a degree in speech therapy, he uses that degree to open up a comedy club? Kind of a weird path for him to take.

Nevertheless, he must have been recognized by someone from his work at the comedy club because he was a regular substitute for Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show. From there, Leno replaced Carson as host and so began his legacy as one of the great hosts for the Tonight Show.

Don't think that he is just a host full time. Leno still is doing what he loves and what originally got him started on his path to fame, standup comedy. He has made it clear, repeatedly, that he is saving all the money he has earned from The Tonight Show and is only living off the money earned from doing standup comedy. 

For those who are Jay Leno fans and want to see him do what he loves doing, he will be at the Mirage in Las Vegas in September, October, and November of this year. Television has a strict set of rules that prohibits comedic hosts from using everything they have to make the audience laugh, but in Vegas, the gloves are off and the sky is the limit.
