The versatile and talented performer, Jin-Jin (Jennifer) Reeves, holds the starring role in the fabulous Hitzville. Her supporting cast includes two women, four men, and a seven-member band. Hits made famous by groups such as the Four Tops, The Supremes, Gladys Knight and the Pips, The Temptations, and Tina Turner are highlighted throughout the performance.

 The revue's name is a reference to the Hitsville U. S. A. Studio on West Grand Boulevard in Detroit, as well as the name of the record label. The studio was established in 1959 by Berry Gordy. It served as the label's headquarters until 1968. Today, the site is a historical landmark and museum.

This musical genre fuses elements of soul, pop, gospel, R&B (Rhythm and Blues) and hip hop. It gained wide-spread, mainstream popularity during the early 1960s. It frequently incorporates a melodic electric bass and chord structures, tambourines to emphasize back-beats, and call-and-response components (inspired by gospel music). The pop-oriented songs frequently feature meticulously crafted background vocals, horns and orchestral strings.

In addition to the artists noted above, the genre has introduced many notable performers throughout the years. The Miracles, which featured lead vocalist, William (Smokey) Robinson, was the first group to be signed to the label. Also, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Mabel John, the Jackson 5, Martha and the Vandellas, Mary Wells, Erykah Badu, India Arie, Carol Kaye and Brian McKnight are part of this musical tradition.
