What do you get when you combine a forklift operator with a potato chip factory worker? Chris Isaak. Ok, not the funniest joke, but it does make someone wonder how it happened.
Isaak was born to a father, who was a forklift operator, and a mother, who was potato chip factory worker. That part of the joke was truthful. Although he was not shown the way to fame, he worked his butt off to get there. He had to teach himself how to play the guitar and even had to borrow his brother's guitar to practice. His brother must be so happy to know that without his guitar, Isaak would not be the person he is today. He also had a little bit of help from Elvis Presley's music, which gave him inspiration for his own music
After receiving a bachelor's degree in English and Communications from the University of the Pacific in Stockton, he formed the band Silvertone. The band played at every bar and club they could get into to, but they were finally recognized by Erik Jacobsen, a producer, which helped them get a contract with Warner Brothers' Records. This event caused the album, Silvertone, to be produced and it was a huge hit.
In an odd turn of events, Isaac went into acting, where he would play parts in Married to the Mob, Wild at Heart, The Silence of the Lambs, A Dirty Shame, and in his own comedy series on Showtime. That must have been tough to get your way into two of the toughest markets on the planet and succeed.
With his time split between acting and touring, it was nearly impossible to get into the recording studio, but he could not let that stop him. He was able to produce Wicked Game, San Francisco Days, Forever Blue, and Always Tonight.
With all of Isaac's accomplishments, it still isn't enough for him. He is currently on his new tour and will be in Las Vegas in July at the Mandalay Bay Beach. If you want to see what a singer/actor/forklift operator + potato chip factory worker sounds like, Vegas is the place to be.
