The Sun Of Mexico: Luis Miguel

Luis Miguel career started at the age of eleven. It was 1981 and "Un Sol" was the album that got him started on his road to fame. The people of Latin America often refer to him as "The Sun of Mexico" because of the way he lights up the stage and fills their hearts with the sound of his music. Many also call him "The Idol". With his good looks and beautiful voice, it's not difficult to imagine why.

He won a Grammy at the age of 15 for a song he performed in Spanish with Sheena Easton. That was just one of the many awards he has achieved in his lifetime. So far, he's received five Grammys and four Latin Grammys. He won several other awards for songs he performed in musical festivals. He is also the only Latin musical artist to have two albums written in Spanish, go platinum in the Untied States.

He's a very accomplished musician. One of his albums went gold and platinum in four countries, the United States being among them. Not only did it go gold and platinum, it did so within three days of being released. This is something that's virtually unheard of in the music world.

In 1999, his Amarte Es Un Placer Tour had him performing in eight countries. There were a total of 105 concerts that over one million fans attended. It was the most extended and highest-grossing tour to ever be carried out by a Latin artist, until the record was broken by another of his tours, which took place from 2005 to 2007.

Performing for over 25 years, he has become a beloved entertainer in Latin America. Not many child stars are able to continue to thrive in the entertainment industry after they reach adulthood, but Miguel has done so wonderfully. He may be in his 40s but he's still considered by many to be one of the world's top pop singers. Frank Sinatra even invited him to perform a duet with him on an album of his.

He is a man who prefers to keep his private life private. He doesn't speak in interviews about his personal affairs (when he agrees to do interviews at all), and he's not often seen attending award ceremonies. Because he tries so hard to keep away from the paparazzi, he tends to be plagued by them on a regular basis, but he doesn't allow that to affect his performance when he's out on stage.

As of today, he's sold over 50 million albums worldwide. During the mid-1990s, he became one of the first Latin-American musicians to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Music may be his forte', but interestingly enough, he also has several small film roles under his belt.

Spanish may be his native tongue, but he's fluent in several other languages as well. For many, learning just one new language can be an overwhelming challenge, but Miguel has mastered Italian, Portuguese and English. This could be one of the reasons he's been able to touch the hearts of such a vast array of people during the Luis Miguel career.
