Alvarez was originally scheduled to face Victor Ortiz, however, Ortiz was unable to defeat underdog Josesito Lopez in what was supposed to be a tune-up fight this past June, losing due to referee stoppage (broken jaw) and cancelling his bout with Alvarez. Alvarez is also the current WBX Light Middleweight champ.
Josesito Lopez (30-4-0) is a Mexican American professional boxer who is currently fighting in the Light Welterweight and Welterweight divisions. Lopez was the North American Boxing Federation Light Welterweight champion and the WBC Silver Welterweight champion.
On September 15th, Canelo Alvarez will put his WBC Light Middleweight title on the line against a dominating Josesito Lopez.
