People magazine gave her an A. John J. O’Connor in the New York Times wrote: “How refreshing, a woman who doesn’t have to tear her own skin off for our amusement….an attractive human being simply standing there being funny, the first to feel she doesn’t have to be grotesque.”  You and your entire group will laugh til your sides hurt so come out and give Lipshtick’s funny women a chance.

Elayne Boosler  is an American comedian, born and raised in Brooklyn, NY.  After a brief unsuccessful stint at the University of South Florida, Boosler worked for three years as a doorman at The Improvisation comedy club in New York where she met comedian Andy Kaufman, a regular at the club, who convinced her she should do standup comedy.  The two dated for three years and remained friends until Kaufman's death.

Elayne came on the comedy scene when "nice girls didn't do standup."  She is often hailed as the "very first young, unmarried, dressed-up-for-a-date female comic."  She was the first woman to ever have her own standup comedy special, Party of One.  And, since nobody would fund such an outrageous thing (the networks thought nobody would watch it), this bawdy comedian formed her own production company, called Brooklyn Productions.  Her new company produced Party of One for Showtime by itself.  The special had such a following that a barrage of female comedy specials hit the cable networks soon after, including the popular HBO series, Women of the Night.

Boosler credits Andy Kaufman for her "comedy education" as well as her other peers at the time which included Freddie Prinze, Jay Leno, Larry David, Richard Lewis, Richard Belzer, Jimmie Walker, and Ed Bluestone.
