Lion King at Mandalay Bay

For kids and adults, this is a fantastic re-interpretation of the now classic Disney animated film. Surprisingly, the story of little lion cub Simba who must learn to become the “Lion King” after his father Mufasa is killed plays much darker in a live action setting. It retains the magic and wonder, but the darker overtones of Disney’s original film are enhanced by the live-action actors.
While there are echoes of the performances from the movie’s voice talent, by enlarge the cast of the Mandalay Bay version find a way to make each role their own. The music is also unparalleled – with Elton John and Tim Rice’s contributions standing the test of time. From “Can you feel the Love Tonight” to “Circle of Life,” they’re transformed into glorious stage numbers that really bring out the nuance and complexity of each song.
