Ben Folds Five is the piano-driven alternative rock band from North Carolina that has broken up and gotten back together again. The Sound of the Life of the Mind is the first full-length album in more than a decade. This new album lead single “Do It Anyway” has reignited support from the former fan base and has especially found a welcoming audience in Japan.

The last full length album came out just before the dawn of the 21^st century. The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner had seemed destined to repeat the success of Whatever and Ever Amen after the public show of support for the song “Army”. However, the album only had the one hit. Whatever and Ever Amen had the hit “Brick” and the sometimes forgotten lead single “Battle of Who Could Care Less”.

After the trio broke following the failure of the third studio album Ben Folds would continue to produce the kind of music he lovingly deprecated as punk rock, but for sissies. The break up proved to be amicable enough that they would reunite several times until recently, when they stopped teasing fans with one-off concerts and three-track EPs and finally just came out and announced the three musicians would be back for another big effort.
